Appalachian Wild Ale fermented in Oak with local blueberries & elderberries.
"Need a Hug" is an Appalachian Wild Ale brewed w/ local barley & local raw wheat, boiled w/ burlap-aged hops. Fermented w/ our mixed house cultured in stainless steel. Transferred into oak for 4-6 months of aging. Transferred out onto a massive amount of local blueberries in June 2018. Fermented & aged on berries for 3-4 months & transferred into red wine barrels. We did this part a little differently this year. Opposed to adding all of the elderberries into the blueberry tank, we did a separate fermentation with only our barrel-aged sour base and the elderberries. This allowed a greater ability to blend to our desired outcome. Each beer matured in the wine barrels for an additional 6 months.

Tap at MBCC2017, Copenhagen. Color is deep red with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Berries, red berries, some sourness and some tartness.

Draft. A red beer with a pink head. The aroma has notes of berries, brett, and straw. The flavor is sour with notes of blueberries, lemons, and brett, leading to a tart finsh.

From tap. Pours hazy red with a small pink head. Aroma is dry and berry fruity. Dry, citric and sour fruity. Lingering dry and fruity into the far finish. Smooth and dry fruity.

Bottle. Pours hazy magenta, small white pink head, some lacing. Aroma is fruity, berries, funk, Brett. Flavor is light tart, light plus funk fruity and berries. Light body. Tasty!

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a hazy purple ruby with small frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is strong berry, floral, funk, oak. Thin mouth, funky, tart berry, cherry skin, oak, very good.
