This is a beer that represents the collective of forward thinking, modern day brewers honing in on their skills and their favourite ingredients. It pops a juicy mix of citrus, lemon curd, resin and bubblegum with Simcoe and Sorachi hops. Add to that Belgium yeast fermented at lower temperatures and you get the fruit salad candy mix of light esters and sweetness. Team those delicious flavours with chocolatey dark malt and comforting toast, this innovative collab pushes conventions of a Black IPA. There's no turning back post-Collabageddon. This all-in brew was made by Elusive Brewing, Unity Brewing Co, Vibrant Forest, 40FT, Odyssey Brew Co and Affinity Brew Co.

Keg at the Famous Royal Navy Volunteer. Very dark brown, bordering on black. Tiny bit of cream-coloured head. Light aroma of funky yeast, salt liquorice, bramble. Outstanding taste: sweet with a souring note, finishing off with earthy bitter. Tar, ash, liquorice, espresso in the finish. Carbonation is lower than many keg beers. Complex and delicious.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a large creamy tan head. Mixed aroma of roast malts, bubblegum, fruits, yeast, resin. Taste of citrus, resin, roast malts, tropical fruity esters, yeast, bitter finish. Medium body, soft carb. Decent, really wasn't sure about after the first few sips but it grew on me, interesting take on the style.

Hop Locker 1. Keg. Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is light and dry and finely crisp. Thin dark malts, a little tangy, mild dark chocolate. Touches of rose, lime and cola. Very mild coffee. Finishes light with some piney hop and hoppy spice. Nice. The Sorachi wasn't obvious to me and the yeast appears to have done some interesting things. Engaging and drinkable.

Keg at HL1, 17/11/17. Murky off black with a decent light tan covering. Nose is earthy, herb, peppery spices, charr, Belgian yeast tang, toffee, light roast. Taste comprises mellow roast, Sorachi kiss, black peppery spice, light candied fruit, herbal bite, light floral whisper, hint of lime leaf. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with earthy hop bitterness and Sorachi bite. Decent enough Sorachi CDA ... balance is pitched well.
