Cask at Alexandra, Derby. Pours pretty much jet black with a small beige head. Roasted malts mainly in the nose. The smokiness comes through in the mouth, together with roast malts, liquorice and old English spangles. After a while vanilla comes through as well. Rounded off with a burnt ashy finish. Pretty good all round – and very easy drinking

Keg at the Blue Boar as part of their 2020 Night and Day Festival. Very dark brown, almost black. Opaque. Light smoky aroma with some blackberry and a bit of black barley. Bittersweet taste with cooking chocolate and intense smoke flavours. Some sweet molasses and antiseptic notes in the finish. Medium carbonation. Delicious.

On cask at Piccadilly Tap, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out dusty cocoa, a hint of smoke, and earthy notes. Flavour is rather chocolatey, with sweet cocoa powder, some earthy notes, and maybe a hint of smoke. Quite chocolate and moderately sweet. Not overly complex, but it's tasty.
