Whiplash decided to go all the way with this big dirty straight up Imperial. In their words – this ain’t no pastry stout! Ashy with a light sour note in the background and a dry, bitter finish.

Can at LKS thanks to Dan. It pours opaque jet black with medium tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, charred, umami, cacao nibs, liquorice, toasted sesame seed and peppery spice. The taste is slick, oily, chewy, sticky, cacao, dark chocolate, peppery spice, umami, liquorice, burnt fruit cake and toasty brown sugar with a dry, umami driven finish. Medium - full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Rich and unctuous. Decent gear.

Bodney Towers Bottleshare. Thanks to Dan the man for the can. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry and with decent fine carbonation. Smooth rich dark malts, some mild roast and mildly bitter licorice. Modest tangy fruits. Savoury bitterness. Light semi dry finish. Rich and savoury.

Can from Bottle Baron. Black body with a medium tan head. Good lacing. Aroma of cocoa, soy sauce and hazelnuts. Flavour of chocolate, caramel and Marmite. Medium to full body with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A rich, straightforward Imperial Stout that drinks like it’s half the ABV.
