Appalachian Wild Ale brewed with local blackberries

Appalachian Wild Ale brewed with local barley and local raw wheat. Boiled with burlap-aged hops. Fermented with our mixed house cultured in stainless steel. Transferred into oak for 4-6 months of aging. Transferred out of oak onto a massive amount of local blackberries from the harvest of July of 2018. Fermented and aged on the berries for 3-4 months and transferred back into red wine barrels. Matured in the wine barrels for an additional 6 months. 12-15 months old at time of bottling. Conditioned naturally inside the bottle and keg. Blackberries were grown at River Ridge Organics of Grayson County, Virginia and were harvested in the summer of 2018. The absurd level of fruiting, paired with an extra long maturation time allowed 2018/2019

375 ml bottle. 2022 vintage. Thank you Adam. Aroma is oak, blackberry hints, funk. Flavor follows. Tart and mildly sour. Some pucker in the glands. The flavor is a touch sharp. Decent!

Bottle at Wakefest. Pours a hazy ruby with medium pink head that lasts. The aroma is blackberry, cherry, oak, funk. Slick body, jammy, blackberry, light funk, nice tartness, enjoyed this.

Decent red berry notes. Deep purple with a small white head. Soured raspberry and and an acidic finish. Solid, but acidity takes away.

Sampled from the bottle at Mixed Culture. Pours a clear purple with a red hue and a light red head that dissipates to the edge. Aroma is full of tart red fruit with bitter raspberry and an earthy funk supporting. Flavor has sweet tart raspberry with notes of funk and tart stone fruit backing.

Bottle from State of Origin release shared with friends at CB. Pours a deep purplish-black with a small pink head that forms a ring on the edge of the glass like grape juice almost. Big and pungent blackberry nose with tannic seed aromas, blackberry skin and flesh and some hay and mild funk. Bone dry on the palate with lots o tannic notes. Woody and funky, but the blackberry firmly sits front and center at all points. Really, the fruit stands out and shines in this beer and all of the jammy, tart lightly sweet character of the flesh sits right next to the tannic, astringent seed notes as well. Smooth finish, with a long tannic, blackberry note that lingers. More like a blackberry wine than a beer per se, delicious though. --- Beer merged from original tick of Snug Glove on 15 Jun 2018 at 23:38 - Score: 8

(On tap @ MBCC 2017 Green Session, Copenhagen) Pours lightly hazed dark red with a pale pink head. Notes of blackberries and tart red berries (raspberry, cherry), citrus peels, light to moderate lactic acid, light malt core, oak, soft wet funk, berry seeds. Fairly tart all the way through to the finish, though a little drying and tannic oak as well. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation. Nice fruity, balanced, refreshing sour. A touch thin but quite drinkable.
