It's got all the expectations of a fantastic beer and yet it somehow falls short. I have to go searching for the flavours whereas at 11% they should be punching me in the face. Enormous promise but I just don't go wow!

Tap @Brewdog Doghouse, Manchester. Slightly oily, black, small beige head. Aroma has dark malts, choc, a little Amaretto, a little sweet chili, but not sure. Sweet flavour, sweet dark malt, light almonds, roast, some caramel. Smooth, sweet finish with a little boozy warmth and the Amaretto more and more.

Keg at Brewdog Doghouse Edinburgh. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate and leather, some vanilla. Taste is herbal up front, dark chocolate again, light wood and orange. Faint chilli heat, but probably because I'm looking for it. Rich and sweet and oily. Much better than that rocky road shit.

Keg at Dogtap for the AGM. It pours oily jet black, opaque with a lasting fluffy light tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, dark, decadent, slick, thick, herbal, red vermouth, fortified wines, Jaegermeister some vanilla, chilli, spice, chocolate cake, dull dried fruits, toasted fruit cake, vanilla and some rocky road. The taste is noticeable thicker than paradox, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, coffee grounds, fragrant, herbal, red vermouth, spicy, dull chilli spice, plenty of dark chocolate, warming booze, chewy, toothy, chilli spice, cake batter, dry oak, jammy wagon wheel and some tannin with a dry, roasted finish. Fulsome body, moderate carbonation and thick, mouth feel. A bit sweeter and heavier than previous editions. The barrel character is super fun.
