Like its four-legged namesake, this stout is strong, bold and rich in flavour, with a smooth creamy head for good measure. We even spread the love by feeding the spent grain from the brewing process to our own herd of Belted Galloway cattle.

Malts Marris Otter, Chocolate, Amber, Brown.

Hops Magnum Target.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a minimal cream head and good lacing. Has a vague aroma of nuts and vanilla. In the mouth it is quite sweet with low carbonation and a creamy texture. Flavour veers between dark fruits and milky coffee. Finish is sweet and fruity. This is OK, but by no means a worldbeater.

Half pint on cask at Southampton Arms, pours a watery cola brown, fairly dark, sudsy off white head. Nose has malt, molasses, licorice, rootbeer, light cocoa. Flavors of cocoa powder, 3 musketeers bar, licorice. Finishes with some tannins and more body that you expect at 4%.

Cask at CBC Covent Garden - London. Pours clear brown with a frothy, khaki head. Fairly dry, ample ashy bitterness, earth, chalky cocoa. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Strongly bitter finish, lightly astringent, more assertive ashy roast, baking cocoa. Decent, if a bit strong on flavour.
