In July of 2020, we teamed up with Vitamin Sea Brewing for a collaboration that in many ways was a major highlight of the summer. The support of Channel Charge was so overwhelming, we knew we'd have to connect again soon thereafter to do it again. This time around, VSB was kind enough to allow us to brew their version of the collab, Charge the Channel, a Double IPA hopped with ludicrous amounts of Citra, Rakau, and Galaxy.

Pouring a hazy deep yellow, Charge the Channel wastes no time in filling the room with its vibrant, tropical aroma. Notes of mango nectar, juicy pineapple rings, and a rush of ripe guava delight the palate. Underneath this onslaught of tropical fruit, a creamy citrus profile adds notes of candied grapefruit, lemon preserves, and orange creamsicle. Charge the Channel offers a medium-bodied mouthfeel, with gentle bitterness, and a highly drinkable finish.

STYLE: Double IPA
ABV: 9.0%
HOPS: Citra, Rakau, Galaxy

MALT: American 2-Row Barley, Rolled Oats, Malted Oats, White Wheat, C-15

Can (2/16/21) pour from the Fenway location. It's an opaque yellow with light sparkle at the edges of the glass finger-width white foamy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong mixed citrus and tropical fruit including lemon, mango, and tangerine along with mild herb and yeast. Taste follows aroma with noticeable alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation, alcohol and hop burn, and finish as taste. Overall, the aroma and flavors are strong but lack the distinct elements identified in the description. Alcohol flavor and burn are distracting.

16 oz. can traded by tfontana. Thanks Tom. Born on: 02/16/21. Aroma implies; grass, onion, slight pine. Flavor is a match. Alcohol is nearly hidden. Bitterness is pretty stern in pine character.

Galaxy and Citra. Very vibrant. Mango, pineapple, guava. Creamy orange and grapefruit. Slightly bitter, though very smooth. A nice escape to a tropical climate, if only momentarily. Favourite pic from today's hike.

Can. CW online. Looks like custard. Fine white head. Nose has lemon and lime. Lemon sorbet. Nettle leaf. Five quid bag. Milky grain. The 9% isn’t apparent. Taste has light sweetness, with a punchy, leafy green bitterness. Medium body is a little slick, tempered by fine but brisk carbonation. Lingering leafy bitterness to finish. It’s not shy with the hops this one.

Pours a hazy, pineapple-lemon, with smallish head. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit, with some green onion. Flavor follows. It starts rather bitter and stays that way, through to a hoppy, pine/spruce finish.
