Sampled LIBF18. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours clear, nearly black. No real head. Smell is bit roasty, ashy and tar. Taste is sharp, roasty, pure cocoa. Way too much roasted malt, balance is totally lost here. Bit bitter, rather high carbo. Typically Belgian style stout...

Thank you for sharing tderoeck & Filip. 330 ml. bottle sampled @ LIBF 2017. Black, small mocha head. Nose is weird roasted plastic, sweet sugar, BE. Taste is plastic, anis, roast, cardamom, flat coffee, almost chilli, near peated. Body is plastic. Too plastic, BE, some liquorice, imperfect for sure.

Belgian ‘impy’ by Jef Goetelen, sampled at LIBF. Thanks Johan for sharing. Thin, opening, pale yellowish beige, lightly lacing head over a very dark blackish bronze, hazy beer. Aroma of blackberries, old moist chocolate bars, dry tree leaves, ashes, elderberries, sour cherries, brown bread, coffee grounds, earth, dried banana. Sweetish onset, dried banana and fig with an elderberry-tinged sourish edge, sourishness of roasted grains as well, slightly oily mouthfeel. Walnutty and caramelly malt body with a bitterish toasted edge, finishing quite herbal, phenolic and very earthy, a bit astringent and ashy as well, with gin-like warming alcohol in the end. Roasted grain sourishness and relatively harsh bitterness runs through the whole. Not everybody liked this one and it certainly is very recognisably Belgian, like most Belgian attempts at imperial stout – but within that specific segment, this isn’t the worst I had so far.
