Inspired by Battle Axe Butte southeast of Phoenix, this beer tastes as rugged as its namesake. The base of this beer is a high gravity Imperial Stout with oats, lactose sugar from the United Dairymen of Arizona and Medjool Dates from Steadfast Farm. We then aged this huge stout in Laphroaig barrels for a few months.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong aroma of peat smoke (Laphroaig Scotch whisky) and roast malts. Medium sweet flavour, some lactose and dates, roast malts, intense notes of peat smoke, too much peat for me.

Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza 2017. It pours opaque dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, toasted marshmallow, rocky road, vanilla, dried fruits, jammy berry, peat reek and earth. The taste is soft, sweet, sticky, sugary, warming booze, dried fruits, smoke ,slightly medicinal, Islay whisky action, spice, leather, roasted malt and tar. Full body , fine carbonation carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Perhaps a bit rough around the edges, but I like the smokey whisky character.

Beaverfest. Day 1. Keg. Almost opaque Brown beer, small pale 10 head. Palate is smooth, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts with a little dark chocolate. Punchy peat and whiskey spice. Modest dark fruits underneath. Light dry finish. Ok but shows it's hand.

Taste comprises bonfire, burnt toffee, Laphroaig evident, light medicinal bite, dark chocoalte, fruit cake. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a rising, but balanced for 15%, boost.
