Only about the three dozenth time I’ve had this so I figured I’d take some notes. Hazy amber colour. Chewy, caramelly, earthy nose. Malty and warming, with hints of peach, toffee and alcohol. A fairly firm hop bitterness lies underneath. It’s always been the most consistent, reliable brew at Skagit.

Rich, warm malty aroma. Kind of light smoke. Deep amber color with a white head that filmed quickly. Medium bodied. Very moderate carbonation. Start with a sweetness that is hinting chocolate, probably caramel, and quite roasty, smoked. Not a lot of hop here. The whole thing is complex with hints that could be wood, peat, and who knows. It seems complex. After it sits for awhile, a sip is definitely chocolate. Go figure.

Draught. Aroma of raisins and alcohol and sap. Flavour of malt, sugar and alcohol. I admit I’m not that familiar with Scotch ales. Deep reddish brown colour with a hoppy, alcohol finish. This is something to sip on a cold rainy evening.

On Tapat Skagit River Brewery and Taproom. Clear light mahogany color with a wisp of off white head. Lots of sweet malt and woddy aromas. Flavors were that and carmel, papery/cardboard. Very little hops per the style and a bitter woddy trailer. Nice
