Tontine is a contemporary North East milk stout brewed using both chocolate and crystal malts which gives this a distinctive black colour. The roasted aroma and flavour are complemented by a gentle sweet aftertaste obtained from natural milk sugars.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe, drank during a live random tasting session with myself and on a Virtual bar thread on the UK forum, 20th Sep 2017. Poured into my huge 'Rudas' glass just because I wanted too. Black bodied, tanned crown. Malty nose with chocolate esters ruling the aromas, light coffee notes swirl around too. The taste is also malts first and foremost, slightly burnt and bitter in nature, coffee flavours pushing the chocolate from the aroma into second place. Smooth and rich, but never far away from those burnt malty flavours. A Milk Stout it may be, but it is a long way from being a 'Sweet Stout', until beginning to warm in the glass, then the sweetness arrives.
