Treated as an American Wild ale, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy burnt out orange almost brown color with a thin white foamy finger’s head that dissipates ever so slowly leaving a glaze of foamy lacing all around the glass.
The aroma starts off with funky / wild berry / barrel to woodiness. White pepper spiciness. Grassy bitter hops. Clean earthiness. And then more funk. Sour green apple flesh and skin. Muscat vinous grapes really impound the backdrop the aroma.
The flavor starts off with the vinous qualities up front with a smooth sour and then the dry woody barrel helps to balance. Sour green apple skin and flesh. Smooth sour aftertaste with a quick finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation yields at a good level.
Overall, nice as an American Wild ale, but fails as an IPA. But I don’t want to be overly critical in this category and take into account that someone didn’t add this correctly to ratebeer. It does say on the bottle: \"a rare wild ale.\"

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2016 vintage dating on the cork. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, white grape, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, light caramel, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/pine hops, oak, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, white grape, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, light caramel, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of yeast/tannic oak spiciness, piney bitterness, and fruity/acidic tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, white grape, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, leather, oak, musty funk, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/pine hops, oak, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/bitter/spiciness balance, and minimal astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitter/tart/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/acidic/tannic/grainy, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an awesome Brett IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/pine hops, oak, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, even with the strong bitter/spicy flavors. A very enjoyable offering.

750 capped and corked from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very hazy, dirty gold with a significant foamy off-white head. Aroma is funky, sort of bretty, but coming across a bit like a spicy soda. Full bodied, thanks to heavy carbonation. Flavor starts sort of bretty, moves on to a floral/lacto/pedio type of thing. Lots of flavor. It’s well towards dry. It’s bitter/funky. Hop? Probably, but not the harsh, bitter kind of thing. Fruit? No. Floral? Probably. A very different drink; yet it’s extremely satisfyingly tasty. Wowser? Almost.
