Named for Ottawa's fabled beer train, rumoured to be buried somewhere beneath Lebreton Flats at the former site of Canadian beer baron E.P. Taylor's Bradings Brewery, Lost Train is full-bodied with notes of rich chocolate, roasted coffee and dark grains. Ottawa-grown organic oats contribute a deliciously silky smoothness.

Can from the brewery. Jet black, large beige head. Resinous hops, dark, intense roasty malts, smooth mouth feel, medium carb. Quite bitter, light cocoa, and soy. Excellent stout.

Can: Poured a black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of roasted malt notes with light subtle black chocolate notes is OK. Taste is a nice mix of roasted malt notes with some black chocolate notes, light residual sugar notes with some light oat notes also perceptible. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable stout with good drinkability.

Dark brown color. A bit chocolatey, good strength, drier in the final. More than decent.

Dark brown. Not much head. Some odd fruity notes on the aroma, at best going in a blueberry direction but that’s optimistic. Touch of dark malt. I’m not nuts about the aroma but I like it a lot on the palate. Touch of fruit, hit of toast, not much roast, some good dark sugars. I like it - the kind of oatmeal stout you’d drink a lot of.

Growler, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out a nice bold roasted malt character upfront, with a little coffee and hearty oats. Flavour is along the same lines, with hearty oats, medium roasted malt, and light coffee. Nicely constructed, with a moderately robust body. Very well-made and enjoyable.

A dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, light chocolate malt with herbaceous character, light metallic notes, light resinous grassy hops. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light chalky character, light coffee grind, herbaceous hops, a bit light bodied. On tap at brewery.
