Bottle from the Galeria Frankfurt. Finally found a cold one to get my fourth new one from Michael Jackson’s 500 on this trip. Not expecting much, however. Spicy, slightly lemon hop nose. Malt is rather thin and crisp with a touch of cardboard oxidation. Clear pale gold with a low, thick head. Reasonably crisp and dry pilsner, with slightly bready malts.and a peppery, bitter finish. Not as highly attenuated as the more northern pilsners, but drier than the stuff from the south that I have been drinking lately. Actually, a pleasant surprise. This bottle is fresh and pretty decent. I imagine that mergers and acquisitions have reduced this from what it was when MJ first tried it, and certainly it would not be in anyone’s top 500 today, but still a decent drinking pils when fresh. I do think I had this once in Japan and it was uselessy oxidized, though.

5 3 5 3 10Draft at Papa Joe’s, Cologne. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of grain, corn, light malt and metallic notes. Flavour is light sweet and bitter. Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Wohl eines der bekanntesten Biere Deutschlands. Es ist ein klassisches Pils mit einem etwas weniger starken hopfigen Geschmack, als viele andere Industrie-Pils. Es ist zwar angenehm zu trinken, aber herausragend deshalb noch nicht.
