Draught, 6% @ Brothers Beer Bistro, Ottawa. Pours clear dark golden with small white head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with notes of hops and yeast. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with notes of yeast and hops. Bitter aftertaste. Watery. Not very impressive. 150715

Seems like some of these Ashtons are just miscategorized by the brewers. This would do ok as a harvest red or pale ale. It certainly osnt a brown in any sense of the word. Pours cloudy amber with good head and lacing. Would give it a higher appearance grade if it were right colour for style. Smells like citrus hops. Hop heavy. Not much of a malt profile. Sampled at Quinn’s Ale House in Ottawa, Ontario. Pours a slightly hazy copper colour with a small white head. Not much nose... just a bit of malt. As it warms up, it does get better with notes of sweetness and nuts. A little later, I get plum and butterscotch. Medium-bodied with a slight sticky mouthfeel. Thankfully the taste is better than the smell. Flavours of sweetness, mild raisins, nuts, with light bitterness creating a dry finish. Decent brown ale that starts off too mild, but shows character if you show patience.

A dark reddish copper brown ale with a thin creamy off white head. In aroma, sweet butterscotch, more buttery than scotch, with nutty and herbal notes. In mouth, a lightly sweet malt with some light nutty notes, oily mouthfeel very sweet, slick and cloying in finale. On tap at Patty’s, Dec. 10 2011.
