Red Kite is deep red in colour and is made using a traditional Mild Ale malt variety that was a staple of bitters and milds brewed in the Midland in the 1950’s.
With the introduction of the Osprey Project at nearby Rutland Water, the area has become a Mecca for Bird of Prey spotters. In recent years the number of Red Kite sightings in the area has steadily increased to such an extent that there are now Hides established on the nearby river Gwash for the sole purpose of watching these magnificent birds in action. Introduced in 2014, Red Kite, like the bird is steadily increasing its sightings in the area too!

Cask handpull at 39 Steps Broadstairs. Clear red russet amber lasting beige head. Some dusty malt. Not much hop. Some steel. Some malt fruit. ok red bitter. dusty hop.

Cask at the Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough. Pours auburn brown with a bubbly off white head. Aroma of malt, hops, caramel, bread, dark fruit. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Toward medium bodied, slight oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is semi-sweet, with biscuity edge. Nice and best of 3 Grainstore beers tried in my Peterborough pit-stop.

(Cask at Kitty’s, 20161118) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had toffee and straw. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were earth, malts, toffee and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A decent bitter with some weird aromas.

Cask at the Peterborough beer festival 27/08/2016. A reddy amber coloured pour with a lasting off white head. Aroma is brown bread with dried fruits, toast and berries. Flavour is composed of nutty malts, semi sweet jam on toast, mineral, raw grains. Palate is thin and watery, moderate cask condition . Ok. A little bland.

15th March 2016: cask at the brewery. Half-pint at lunchtime and a pint during the evening. Red hue to the deep amber coloured body, decent staying head. Malty and semi-sweet in nature, very little bitterness, my sweet tooth really liked it.
