Red Kite is deep red in colour and is made using a traditional Mild Ale malt variety that was a staple of bitters and milds brewed in the Midland in the 1950’s.
With the introduction of the Osprey Project at nearby Rutland Water, the area has become a Mecca for Bird of Prey spotters. In recent years the number of Red Kite sightings in the area has steadily increased to such an extent that there are now Hides established on the nearby river Gwash for the sole purpose of watching these magnificent birds in action. Introduced in 2014, Red Kite, like the bird is steadily increasing its sightings in the area too!

Gravity cask at the 2019 Leicester Beer Festival. Amber/brown, clear with hints of white head around the rim. Sour woody smell with some chewy malt. Bittersweet taste with some woody hop in the finish. Flat body. Pretty lazy and not exciting.

Cask ale, third, at the brewpub in Oakham. Shared with Finn. Next to clear copper coloured body, beige bubbly head, clingy lacing. Moderate smell of grainy fruits. Taste profile brings notes of fruity caramel and biscuit. Mid-dry, distant bittersweet end. Accepted. (11.02.2019).

Delt med Rune 11 Feb 19. Mørk gyldenbrun. Filmskum med litt farge. Litt lacing. Bæraroma. Smaken vassen plommer. Lett tørr bitter avslutning.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Cask. Clear amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and has low carbonation. After the joys of KeyKeg natural carbonation, it’s a jarring return to flabby cask condition. Modest toffee in the malts, some creamy sweetness. Mild candy fruits and ripe fruits. Light semi dry finish shows some esters. Nice flavours but tired condition is tiresome.

[ As Grainstore Red Kite ].Clear medium orange amber colour with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet malt, caramel, toffee.
