Poor. Very sweet. Small glass in the Jolly Sailor, La Rochelle, the only English bar alongside the harbour, it was empty, should have given me a clue. The next day, Saturday, it was closed.

330ml can bought at the brewery and drunk over Xmas. Mid- to dark gold and clear with a swirl of white head. Light toasty malt in the aroma, some gluey resin and some honey. Sweet taste with a big malty base and some agave nectar with a bitter, almost astringent, kickback. Long bitter finish. Full body, heavy carbonation. Good if not exceptional.
