24/4/2021. Can shared with D&J at the welcome to Eva beer share. From Craft Metropolis, Penge. Pours very dark brown with a large frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma of coffee, nut, vanilla, dark chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, hint of coconut. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Medium body, smooth texture, average carbonation. Increasing bitterness to finish. Mellowed and improved after a while as the carbonation eased.

Can. Something of a gusher, glad I didn't go full ring pull on this one. Opaque dark brown beer, throws a purdy big tan head thanks to the fizzing exit from the narrow opening in the can. Smooth palate, airy and fluffy, good fine carbonation as you may very well expect from the behaviour of this one so far. Smooth dark malts, mellow and mildly creamy dark chocolate. A good savoury vibe here, derived I believe from the PX barrel. That superbly intense sherry imparts some rich and ripe fruitiness here but leaves behind the excess sweetness behind. Result! Smooth coffee underpins. A general tang adds a bit of an edge but gladly never clamours to get sour. Smooth finish. Nice. Plenty going on here and it comes together into something that is darn drinkable. Just be careful with that ring pull.

Can from Hoptimism. Appearance - dark brown to black with a hint of an orange chink around the base. Tan to fawn, big fluffy head. Nose - coffee very obvious, as are chocolate notes from stout malts. Not getting much PX, but maybe a bit boozy at least. Taste - again, very rich coffee up front which then goes into dark but creamy chocolate, before hitting some dried fruits, which might be the PX coming through. Palate - creamy and full bodied, rich texture, decent length, not too boozy. Overall - I like it.

Can at home from HOTM online, 22/01/21. Pitch black with a good sized lasting dirty tan cap. Nose is tangy dried fruits, light balsamic effect, bitter roast, coffee bean, light spice, dark malts, vinous tones. Taste comprises fruit cake, spice, nice PX twang, more prominent coffee vibes than the aroma, bitter sweet, toasted brown sugar, cacao nibs, roasted tones, tiramisu coffee liquid mix, light ashen twang. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced boost. Solid complex and flavoursome impy stout ... the PX sings in harmony with the coffee and balanced roasted profile.
