Mature barrel aged beer re-fermented on Texas grown San Giovese wine grapes
Birra di Sangiovese is our barrel aged sour beer refermented with Sangiovese grapes grown at Tyler Farms & Vineyard in Midland, Texas. We got a really great haul of several different varieties of Texas wine grapes this past August, including Sangiovese, Syrah, Muscat, and Blanc du Bois. After fruit refermentation and bottle/keg refermentation this summer and fall, our 2017 wine grape beers are coming out!
In August, we blended eight 225L oak barrels of mature barrel aged sour beer and added about 1,100 pounds of hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes for refermentation. After around a month of fruit refermentation, we racked the beer off the grapes and naturally conditioned it in bottles and kegs.

Draught @ MBCC 2019 - Green Session
Pours hazy reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, grapes and funk. Taste is medium sweet and light sour with a long fruity and funky finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Sampled from the tap at Mixed Culture 2018. Pours a cloudy earthy red with a near white that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has notes of tart red fruits that is supported by an oaky funk. Flavor has light funk and tart red fruits with an acid bite and a red wine barrel backing.

Draught @ MBCC 2019. Pours clear red with an offwhite head. Aroma of malt, light sourness, yeast, wood, tart fruit, grapes. Flavor is sour, malt, wood, yeast, fruit, tart grapes. Medium body, average carbonation, light sourish finish. 110519
