The third in our Hop Adventure Series has brought us to a more traditional variant of hop. Hops from the Alsace region of France have long been used in pale lager beers. However, more recently hop breeding programmes in Alsace have been bringing out more interesting styles and Aramis caught our immediate attention. It is as a great hybrid hop that perfectly combines a big hoppy bite with citrus as well as the peppery spice associated with old world lagers.

It is a classical IPA, not so bitter for the style, watery, some malt but you have at the final nice notes of pine tree, resinous, decent, 05.11.17, buying it probably at the ex grain d'Orges, Crissier, drinking it at Bonfol.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk at home. Clear amber colour lasting cream head. Yes some decent hop some decent toffee malt. Some ok bitterness on the finish. Hop is slightly aromatic, some ok hop flower flavour, quite fresh. Yes rather decent I thought. As the bottle went down I liked the hop floral flower flavour.

Pours pale amber, opaque. Medium dense milk white head. Stays. Good lacing. Hoppy aroma. Grassy, lemony, biscuit malts. Medium body. Oily. Malts and hops form the flavour. Grassy and citric light to medium bitterness makes the brew leave a real positive impression.

500ml bottle. Barely clear, orangey, pale golden colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head, Biscuity, pale malty and fruity, minimally floral hoppy aroma, hints of gooseberry. Taste is bitter hoppy, slightly fruity, minimally floral, a touch of gooseberry, mineral interludes, weak, minimally sweet, biscuity pale malty basis. Pretty much a Golden Ale, not an IPA.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [050616]
Amber, clear, frothy white head
Aroma - Sweet pale caramel, no hops
Taste of sweet caramel malts, hint of honey, soft spicy herbal hops, soft bitter, not keen on this hop tbh
Palate - Soft carb, rather sweet. Finish has more bitter hops in the tail
Overall - Too much sweet malt cramps the hops which aren’t that great anyway. Not a fan of this.
