Inky black with a tan cap our sixth anniversary imperial stout bursts with notes of cocoa powder, freshly roasted coffee, and leather. Lovely when fresh COLOSAL 6 will age beautifully for years to come. (2017)

Deep dark brown coloured body with a fairly opaque dark brown glow and a thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, oats, chocolate, earth, pit fruits and quite a bit of grain. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavours with oatmeal, anise, coffee, chocolate and grain all noticeable throughout with some pit fruits, raisins, cacao and other deep flavours. Aftertaste shows a lot of pungency with alcohol and spices the strongest, but the cacao and coffee notes along with the oat flavours show through nicely and lead to some moderate complexity. Overall, a decent Imperial Stout that goes down fairly easily and shows some vanilla and oak, and is nice, even fresh. I haven’t had many fresh Imperial Stouts over the years, but this is nice and shows some complexity while goes down quite easily, and the only reason I’m drinking this fresh is because it was from the draught. I sampled this thirty two ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 20-February-2017 for US$11,00 sampled at home in Washington directly in front of Whole Foods on 22-February-2017.

Bottles from my local Trader Joe’s. Pours a pitch black color with a nice tan head. Aroma is bakers chocolate, roasted malts. Flavor is nice chocolate, dried fruits. Booze is finished. Totally not hot. Okay, these guys have made consistently decent beer in a number of styles, but this one totally knocks it out of the park in my opinion.
