First there was Safe Word…then comes our Safe Stout. We packed our 7.7% Stout full of Chokeberries which creates a complex mouthfeel of bitter-sweet sensation. The aroma comes off with hints of dark chocolate and playful tart fruit notes that create an interwoven full flavoured stout.

Cask at Pig’s Ear Fest, Hackney, London. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, dark fruit aroma. Tastes pretty much the same, roasty, malty, dark fruit, slight smoke. Easy drinking nice stout.

Keg at Craft Clerko, 24/11/16. Black with a well appointed tan head. Nose is earthy red berries, spice, charr, toffee, biscuit. Taste comprises light charring, cocoa powder, toffee, red berry notes, roasted tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a hoppy finale. Ok stout but not feeling the love for this one ... didn’t deliver much depth for the ABV. Could go down the CDA route as Mr Froge notes.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear Festival 2016. Black beer lasting tan head. Blackcurrant tarry roasty. I quitd like it. Fruity but tarry. Hoppy finish. Willamette i guess. Good.

Keg at craft beer Co Clerkenwell, for the tap takeover. An attractive dark brown black coloured pour with a steadfast light tan head. Aroma is intriguing, floral lemon, play dough, peach melba and faint roasted malts. Flavour is composed of simple roasted malts, brown bread, juicy mango and peach, soft roast, mellow hop bitterness. Close your eyes and you could be convinced this is an ipa. Palate is medium bodied, highish carbonation, frothy, nice and juicy. Is this a black ipa?

Keg at CBC Clerks - London. Pours deep brown with a tight, creamy beige head. The nose has moderate cocoa, some dark berries, light roast. Medium sweet flavour with notes of bittersweet chocolate, dried berries, leather, scorched earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with more cocoa, dark berries, light roast. Good stuff.

Keg at Craft Clerkenwell with a thick tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, umami, cocoa, little bit meaty, touch of smoke, berry skin and fruit compote. The taste is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, plenty of red berry, jammy fruits, plum, fruit compote, dark chocolate, charred wood and a touch of black pepper with a dry, toasty finish. Medium + body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Really pretty tasty. Drinks very well.
