Phonics is a vibrant pale ale with complex citrus, fruit and floral hop character with sweet biscuit and caramel malt flavours, balanced with a crisp bitter finish.

Cask (handpump) @ The Sir Walter Scott (JDW), Edinburgh Airport - (Airside), Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 9DN. [ As Brains Phonics ].Clear medium amber orange color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, caramel, fruity malt, light to moderate hoppy, citrus, grass. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration, sweet malt, fruity malt, citrus, grass, caramel. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Cask@The George JDW, Croydon - golden Amber pour with white head. Fruity and malty aroma and taste, with some grassy and light herbal hoppy notes, toasty bready malt backing, so so. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol March 2016. Amber in colour, with a slight, white, head. Aroma of sweetish, hedgerow fruits, with a touch of leafy hop. Flavour had sweet malts, more fruit and a moderately bitter finish. OK.

Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading. Crystal-clear copper with a thin white head. Decent full mouthfeel. Fruit and caramel with a light earthiness. Odd hint of liquorice but otherwise fairly dull.

Cask @ Crosse Keys, London. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and light hoppy - citrus. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and light bitter finish. 250316

Cask at the Greyhound (JDW), Maidenhead. Golden amber with a thin white head; fruity aroma; sweet malty body, then sour with an under-ripe grapefruit citrus taste that somewhat spoils the finish.

Cask @ Up Steps Inn, Oldham. Clear copper gold in colour, with a metallic taste to match. Its aroma is similar with a malty base. It’s a bit like a Hornby train set that’s been running too long.

cask at the moon under water watford. Golden / light amber coloured pour with a lasting thin greyish head. Aroma is fruity berry, brambles, hint of caramel, jammy fruit. Flavour is composed of semi sweet nutty grains, earthy honey, jammy fruits, berry, tangy finish. Palate is semi sweet, grainy, moderate carbonation. . lingering nutty malts and tangy berry.
