A nautical measurement of depth, Fathom is the epitome of a dark beer. Created to include porter and stout enthusiasts, it has won an award each year since the brewery began. Distinct style with more depth of character. With a mere 4% it is no wonder this is a firm favorite.

A 500ml bottle brought home from Scotland. It pours a very dark colour with a brown foamy head. It's aromas are of chocolate. Tastes of chocolate, caramel & coffee. A reasonable stout. Different bottle of beer in my home No. 1916

Black with head that fizzes out after a few seconds. Weird caramel sweet and sour notes. There's no best before date on the bottle but I suspect this had better days. It's more or less cola. Terrible. Lawn water.

Cask, half-pint at Shakespeare (Lower Temple Street). Black in the glass, sparse lacing, filmy layer on the surface. Rather rich cocoa nose. Taste of chocolate malts, lightly roasted. Mid-sweet malty ending. Quite well bodied for the low abv. Pleasing. (Birmingham 06.07.2018).

Third of a cask pint at the Scottish Real Ale Festival in Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange on 7th July 2017. Very dark, almost black bodied: beige topping. Malty in both the nose and flavour, coffee notes from the said maltiness found in the aroma and taste. A decent Stout all round, definitely not a Mild.

500ml bottle poured into tulip glass. Inky black with a big, fizzy tan head. Coffee, roasted malt, leather aroma. Flavour is similar with some dried fruit thrown in for good measure. Bit thin, maybe, but most pleasant
