Cask pint in my local Wetherspoons on 10th March 2016. Deep brown with a red hue, good head that lasted. Spicy and herby from the start, reminded me of Christmas beers and Winter Warmers. Rich malty base with the wintery spices hiding any hop content: I liked it, my sweet tooth picking up the flavours nicely. The best of the eight Wetherspoons 2016 Spring Festival Beers I tried on the pre-festival invitation evening.

Cask handpull at County Hotel Ashford jdw. Clear deep brown colour lasting tan head. perfumed spiced beer. Not my thing at all. Fruity malty. Cinnamon cardamom. Horrible spicy herby not a beer. Ugh. No off flavours and ok condition I just don’t like it. Slightly medicinal

Cask at Victoria station spoons. Pours deep amber, nose is korma curry, taste is similar, light spices. no molasses at all but it’s a pretty good curry beer.

Handpull cask at the Bull, Newmarket. Ok, I’m going to come right out and say it, this is pretty bloody lovely. Copper-coloured and slightly hazy. It’s a fresh barrel so there’s tonnes of creamy tan head. Amazing smell. The spices come through extremely well, especially the cinnamon. It’s the beer equivalent of that heady mulled wine aroma. Sweet initial taste, but there is an underlying bitter/sour. The thin palate and slightly messy aftertaste disappoint a little bit, but this is still a good drink. Gimmicky? You bet. But still tasty.
