Here at BrewDog, we love the hidden tracks; the unexpected discoveries. The B-Sides.

Take our 10HL pilot kit. It is the place our brewers let those imaginations fly and lay down unpredictable, creative tracks. Our brew team use it to dial in our small-scale experimental brews, each then finding its way to our bars as a draught-only special release.

However, we felt the naming convention used previously – Pilot Brew XXX – didn't fully reflected the ingenuity displayed by our brewers. To depict this a little better we now release each pilot brew as a bona fide B-Side; alongside our production-batch launches that take place at our bars, you’ll be able to discover a flip side in the form of one of our B-Side releases.

1/3 pint at Brewdog Stirling pours a hazy dark orange with some cloudy, thinly lacing white head. Nose is zippy with citrus and soap, quite pithy with grapefruit in particular, quite vegetal too, like a moist weed patch. Flavor has more classic DIPA, thick honey, caramel too, big orange rind, lots of grapefruit, plenty of soap and pine to boot. Finishes thick, bitter and sticky.

Brewdog Shepherd Bush. Keg. Clear amber beer, thin pale cream colour head. Skunky resinous hop nose. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Softish malts with light fluffy cream. Rich piney skunky hops, some resin. Mild spice. Smooth finish brings citric peel and marmalade. Quite a green hop DIPA but very nice.

Keg at BD Sheps, 21/03/16. Clear golden with a well appointed white cap that retains well. Nose carries light floral notes, pine, caramel, apricot, tangerine, citric tinged straw. Taste comprises caramel malt, pine tingle, grapefruit, soft bread, melon, orange pith. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, juicy hop rinse in the close. Xolid boost juice ... drinks well below the ABV.

Keg tap at BrewDog Leicester. Brownish gold with a slight ring of white head and intense lacing. Pine needles, maple syrup, tropical fruit in the aroma. Taste is intense, heady and surprisingly sweet, with the bitterness shining through near the end of the sip. A hint of the ABV shows in the gum numbing finish, otherwise I could chug this. BrewDog at their best.
