A core range beer available in Keg and Bottle. Black IPA, Cascadian Dark Ale, American Black Ale, Black Pale Ale – take your pick! It’s a style which causes much discussion. Our version is not exactly black but a very dark brown. It has the typical high-hopping rates you’d expect of an IPA and roasted flavours are kept to a minimum by using the darker malts – Carafa2 and black malt – at the end of lautering, extracting only the colour. High-hopping rates are achieved with the late addition of Cascade, Summit and Citra hops to add citrus, floral and tangerine aromas.

Scopey 5K Tasting in deepest Croydonia. Cheers to Paul. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy, light, dry and a little crisp. Light airy.dark malt, dry, touch of cream. Mildly bitter floral notes, touch of lactose. Whisper of roast malt. Airy finish with mild bitterness. A bit hollow and lacking enough hop but it’s okay.

Bottle shared at the Scopey 5K tasting - big thanks to the hosts for this one. Pours lightly hazy brown with an off-white/ tan foam head. The aroma holds brown bread, dough and milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with moderate roasted malts, burnt meat, milk chocolate and modest earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with average, lively carbonation. Mellow burnt pine to finish with doughy brown bread, light chocolate and light smoke. Good.

Bottle at Scopey’s 5K Extravaganza of Oompah Band meets doorbell music, thanks to the hostess with the mostest, some call her the musical director of the Ramsey household, the one, the only, Lorna - 15/02/14. Hazed dark mahogony brown with little floaties evident, good sized light tan covering, would have been a 4 but for the flotsam & jetsam show! Nose is earthy hops, light pine, bramble berry fruit, light cocoa, treacle toffee. Taste comprises earthy hops, biscuit, light tropical fruits, hint of smoke. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok CDA, entry level affair but a good stab at the style.

Bottle picked up at the brewery. It pours near black with a massive light tan head. The nose is fresh pine, earth, roasted malt, toast and cocoa. The taste is toasty, roasted malt, cocoa, earth, ash, decent bitterness, pepper and dark chocolate with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate-high carbonation. Pretty tasty. A solid black IPA.
