Years after the initial release, I finally purchased at bottle at Spruce Creek Provisions. Deep brown color with ruby highlights. Aroma is Earthy soil, mild wine. Mushrooms in this? Maybe comes of as weak earth. Light chocolate.
At best this is a mildly earthy porter. Red wine is hardly noticed and the "mushrooms" come off as an earthy note. Body is a bit on the thin side with a bone dry texture. Yeah, I guess I never really missed anything with this brew.

Tap pour into taster cup at the source. Appearance is caramel color, finger-width foamy beige head with nice lacing, mild sparkle. Aroma is mild malt, earthiness. Taste is malty, like a standard brown ale but with interesting earthiness too. Palate is medium bodied with watery texture, average-to-lively carbonation, and dry, earthy finish. Overall, if you’re into mushrooms, which I am not, then you’d probably enjoy this quite a bit. I can appreciate what it’s doing, but don’t particularly care for it.

Bottle shared at the 2015 edition of the chriso Pre-GBBF tasting - London. Cheers! Pours cloudy brown with a creamy, tan head. Nice aroma, with notes of toasted malts, chocolate and earth. Medium sweet flavour with some toasted toffee, earthy bitterness, mellow cocoa. Light to medium bodied with lively carbonation. OK finish, with a bit of brown bread and chocolate. Tasty and enjoyable.

Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2015. It pours deep red-brown with a massive beige head. The nose is soft, juicy, vinous, earthy, umami, damp leaves, wet wood and some mushroom. The taste is soft, wood, leather, earth, creamy, vinous, red berry, jammy fruits, sherbet and must. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Unique for sure. Not sure if adding mushrooms to a beer is good idea.

Pre GBBF tasting at Chris and Ruth’s. Hazy dark amber beer, good cream colour head. Light palate, semi dry with modest fine carbonation. Thin creamy malts, lightly tangy. Something vaguely vegetal. Light semi dry finish. Modest bitter linger. No wine barrel at all for me. Somewhat left field.

Bottle at Chris & Ruth’s pre GBBF shindig; dark amber pour with a frothy beige head, aroma has grape and spice, taste has some strange vegetation with caramel and grape, very peculiar.
