Winterhook is Redhook’s legendary winter ale, brewed annually since 1984. Crafted with an evolving mix of malts and hops, each yearly edition of Winterhook is one-of-a-kind. This year’s incarnation crafted by header brewer Nick Crandall is a Hoppy Dark Lager, combining the hops of a dank IPA, the malt of a brown ale, and yeast profile of a bock.
Winterhook’s dark colors and bold flavors make it a perfect winter warmer for frosty weather.

Pours a clear reddish amber with a thick creme head. Aroma of sweet earthy malt and grass. Taste has resinous hoppy malt. Palate has oak. Good beer, very much like an IPA.

Roast and lots of wood. Very astringent for what it ought to be. Pours mahogany with good head and great lacing. Astringent end. Tap at brewery.

Backlog rating. Pours a deep amber to brown with a finger of beige head that lingers. Toasted malt aromas with some caramel and floral hops. Earthy on the palate, with some mineral notes, caramel, toasted toffee and soap. Bitter finish, with herbal/floral notes with faint alcohol.

From old tasting notes. Translucent orange amber color with a big yellowish beige head. Sweet molasses, toasted malt aroma. Semisweet malt flavor sports good dry hop character in middle. Well rounded and full flavored. Nicely balanced.

Bottle. Hazy amber brown color, big fluffy tan head that leaves spider web lacing. Aroma of candied dates and burnt caramel. Taste is peppery toasted caramel. Decent enough. My 100th English Strong Ale.
