Radler

Ginger Lemon Radler is a zesty, refreshing take on the tradition of mixing beer with soda or lemonade to create a light, thirst-quenching beverage ideal for warm weather. Radler (literally “cyclist,”) takes its name from active German sportsmen of a hundred years ago, but our version tastes just as good even if you do nothing more strenuous than lifting it to your lips.

From a can I’m not sure if this is beer, ginger ale or lemon aide. Very good carbonation but there is a slight hop bitterness in there that I don’t really care for. Yes, this is probably why it rates so high on RB for a fruit beer, that little bit of hop bitterness that is so prevalent in most of the higher rated ales, regardless of he style. Goodly amount of ginger in there, perhaps that is what I detect as a bitterness. Smell is a little farmy. Pretty good overall.

Can at Winking Lizard. Cloudy yellow color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of lemons, wheat and malt. Light-bodied with a tart lemony character with notes of herbal wheat and malt in the background. The finish is fruity with a ginger and lemon aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours hazy yellow with a transient white head. Lots of ginger in the aroma. Love ginger. Near med body. Flavor is very ginger, and there does seem to be lemon. Haven’t a clue about malt. Finishes lightly sweet with a light ginger burn. Excellently refreshing.
