Bourbon barrel-aged Belgian-style dark ale brewed with Cape gooseberries – 13.9% ABV

6 Geese-A-Laying is a return to the more classic dark and toasty winter ale. This variation spent time in bourbon barrels, adding toasty notes of oak and vanilla. Brewed with Cape gooseberries, this malty ale highlights notes of plums, dark cherry, and bright, citrus-like flavors from the namesake berries. Honk if you love good beer!

Bottle shared at Chris and Ruth’s pre-GBBF tasting 2015 - London. Big thanks to Kenny for this rarity. Pours cloudy gold-amber with a tan cream top. The nose holds lots of ripe fruits, some orange, caramel. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with tangy citrus, bread, alcohol, caramel. Full bodied with finem fizzy carbonation. Oily and hot on the finish, with notes of fruitcake, ripe and dried fruits, bread, tangy citrus. So so.

Bottle thanks to Kenny at ChrisO. It pours cloudy deep amber - brown with a small white head. The nose is sweet, vanilla, toffee, nougat, wood, fruit cake, dark fruits, bourbon, spice and bread. The taste is sour gooseberry, wood, some acidity, definite whiskey sour vibe, vanilla, green apple, light caramel and lemon rind with a sour finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Crazy disconnect between aroma and taste. Bizarre and not what I was expecting, but decent nonetheless.

Pre GBBF tasting as Chris and Ruth’s. Hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy with modest fine carbonation. Mildly sour bourbon nose. Sweetish light malts, touches of cream and caramel. Mildly sour bourbon.Tangy generic fruit. Light vanilla. Light finish. Unusually sour and pleasingly so. Even Ian liked it!

Bottle @ ZEBF 2015. Aroma of raisin and vanilla, little malt as well. Taste is rich, with raisin, toffee, caramel, vanilla, malt, fruity yeast and a little citrus. Different from other brews, nice.

Dark plum - purple color. Pours like 7-up, very fizzy effervescent carbonation that fades fast. weird. Nose is sweet, very fruit forward with coconut and berries. Incredibly boozy. lots of grape juice, sweet vanilla and coconut with clove and other holiday spices. It’s very interesting.. Really good.
