Schon vor über 100 Jahren braute man die englische Spezialität in Hamburg und rund um die Ostsee etwas stärker für den Export ein. Denn das nachtschwarze Bier war in ganz Europa beliebt und ist es auch heute wieder. Wahrscheinlich wegen der satten Malzaromen von Schokolade, getrockneten Früchten und Espresso. Also alle Mann an Deck!

Schwarz wie die See bei Nacht. Fluffiger Gischt on top. Aromatisch röstig, malzig. Im Trunk herrlich dunkelmalzig, Zartbitterschokolade, Espresso, bittersweet, dabei trotzdem sehr süffig. Lecker Ding - Leinen los!

Bottle at Arne's. Pours dark brown, almost black with beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, grains, liquorice, dark dried fruit, raisins, vanilla. Taste sweet with balancing bitterness. Medium bodied.

Draught at Altes Mädchen. Fruity aroma. Almost black colour, clear with a red shine. Good stable creamy light brown head. The flavour is fruity, bready, roasted, slightly watery. Late raw liquorice note. 7 3 7 3 14

Draught @ Altes Mädchen, Hamburg. Pours cloudy very dark brown with stable tan head. Clear aroma of malt and roast, with touches of barrel and yeast. Bitter, roasty onset with notes of coffee and malt and touches of yeast and hints of barrel. Roasty and coffeelike aftertaste with estery notes. OK.

Bottle. Almost black with a chestnut shine, golden brown lace. Roast, earthy, light rural, light candied fruit aroma. Medium full dry mouthfeel, chewy, somewhat sticky. Caramel, light clay, wood, roasted almonds, caramelized potatoes. Light bitter roast aftertaste.

Bottle. Black with a nice head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste follows aroma with a very strong hop presence. Good balance between sweet and bitter. Medium carbonation. Dry aftertaste. Delicious. Another brewery might have called this an Imperial Stout though.

Bottle from Biershop Hamburg. Black with a lasting light brown head. Aroma is dry, roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and roasted moderate bitter finish. 070217
