Innis & Gunn Vintage is a 7.7% ABV ale that was brewed in 2015 and aged in first-fill American bourbon barrels for 100 days before being packaged in 25-ounce bottles. It was bottled with live yeast for natural carbonation and to replicate the flavors and conditioning methods of cask-style beers. The bottle conditioning also allows the beer’s flavor to mature and further develop in the bottle. Vintage was brewed with additions of crystal malt, roasted barley and Styrian Goldings hops. The beer sports a dark amber/brown color with red highlights and features flavors of caramel, coconut, cocoa, marmalade and almonds backed with notes of bourbon.

2015 vintage. Dark brown pour, with an off white almost beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, brown sugar, and earthy barrel. Hints of roasty, and nuttiness, with some light vanilla. Carb is over the top and actually a little tough to drink. Finish is very woody, and earthy, with some more sweet malts. This seems to have alot less of their trademark buttery flavour, this is quite a bit cleaner. Low to medium bitterness, decent stuff.

Bottled. Deep brown colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, some mild peat as well as some diacetylic notes. Flavour is toffee, sweet malts and some slight floral notes.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with lasting, beige head. Malty nose with coffee, chocolate, liquorice, raisins, nuts, mild aromas of oak wood and vanilla, and a touch of tamarind. Malty taste with notes of dried fruit, coffee, liquorice, raisins, nuts, oak wood, vanilla and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet. Smooth and well rounded. Tasty and well balanced. I'm usually not very impressed by the I&G beers, but this was very nice.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Frank from Bielefelder Biersalon - thank you very much!]. Clear, mahogany colour with ruby glimmer and average to huge, firm, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Oaky, sweet-ish, caramel malty, and slightly vinous fruity aroma, notes of oak, caramel, blue grapes, plum, cherry, a touch of Bourbon, vanilla, whiffs of liquorice root. Taste is dry oaky, sweet-ish caramel malty, slightly fruity, some Bourbon BA support, notes of caramel, dark caramel, hints of Bourbon, vanilla, minimally diluted and carbonation-muted hints of plum and cherry, a touch of Sherry. Watery texture, silky palate, rather lively carbonation. Very nice and balanced composition, subtle BA support, sadly rather overcarbonated and therefore detracting intensity of taste.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing this one! Looks good in the glass, dark brown, almost black. Heavy malty aroma, light sourish. Starts quite malty, roasty, soft-sweetish touch of toffee. Hints of caramel. Sweetish-malty finish. Not bad.

500 ml bottle, 2015 vintage. Dark and dry beginning. Moderate bitter and quite light in aroma. Dried fruit, very dry, not too deep. Caramel, roasted malts, deep and woody. Not too intense caramelly, very dry and interesting.

Bottle, thanks Jonas. Dark brown with a large tan head. Sweet with caramel, oak, malt and vanilla. Not bad but sweet.

Bottle @ Fox and hounds, Sønderborg. Dark brown almost black with a big, creamy beige head. Relatively light aroma for this kind of beer, dark malt, light caramel, some vanilla and hint of wood. Flavor is medium sweet, dark malt, caramel, some peat and moderate bitterness. Medium body and shorter aftertaste than expected. Quite nice and probably one of the better one from Innis & Gunn and luckily no butterscotch here as this almost seems to be the signature flavor. Still a bit disappointing as the package and price indicates something of extraordinary high quality.
