Looks the part for sure, near black with a frothy tan head, and a roasted malt with a touch of dark chocolate aroma. Seems more of an old school stout, no massive sweetness, just a nice roasted malt flavour with coffee and perhaps a hint of chocolate going on.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with minimal beige head. There’s molasses and traces of liquorice in the aroma. Smooth and creamy in the mouth with porridge and liquorice being the main flavours. Bit part players are roast malts, dark fruits and alcoholic strength. Finish is dry and malty. A pretty d**n good solid stout – plenty of body to it.

Cask @ Salopian the pub. Pours black, tan head. Roasty nose. Light on the palate, good woody roasty character, underlying bitter dark chocolate. Decent
