Like the barrel aged IPA, this as well is worse than the base beer. It’s a regular Brown Ale, with some residual sweetness, dark malts, a bit roasty, dusty and boozy.
Not too bad, but a bit chaotic.

On tap at Counterbalance, pours a deep dark rusted red with a small beige head. Aroma smells more like whiskey barrels than the advertised red wine barrels, followed by bready caramel malt. Flavour is quite harsh, with notes of whiskey, bready malts and a harsh bitter hoppy astringency. Not sure this benefited from the barrel aging. This is quite harsh and astringent. I prefer the base beer.
