Anchor Winter Wheat is made with a unique blend of 2-row pale barley malt, Belgian roasted wheat malt, German pale spring wheat malt, "Midnight" and hard red wheat malts from the Midwest, and unmalted soft red winter wheat from a local family farm. The result is a smooth, complex, dark brew with a creamy, lacey head; deep, rich mouthfeel; nutty, bread-like, and subtly roasted flavors; and a crisp, clean finish. A special ale yeast provides clean flavors with hints of dark fruit. And a single hop, Northern Brewer, provides earthy, woody, and minty notes with just the right amount of bitterness.

Old rating from 03-09-15 - 330ml bottle, pours a dark colour with a brown head, which is a surprise. Aromas of roasted malt. Tastes of roasted & bready malts with a light flavour of wheat coming through. Feel is of a smooth beer with low carbonation. Overall not your average beer, let alone wheat beer. A nice surprise.

(Bottle) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with dark bread, chocolate, liquorice, dates, orange peel and spicy wheat aromas (nutmeg, clove). Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark bread, black coffee, liquorice, chocolate, dried fruit, orange peel, mild spices and a gentle roasty bitterness in the finish. Medium body, mainly dry. Tasty, well balanced and harmonious. Very nice.

Bottle shared at GBBF 2015 - London. Pours clear, deep brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose holds toasted toffee, prunes, plums, dried berries. Medium sweet flavour, with rich toasted wheat bread, toffee, hints of chocolate, dark fruits. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet on the finish, with more toasted/burnt wheat bread, dark sugars, dark fruits. Very tasty. Nails the style.
