Say hello to Cornish Best in bottle! Cornish Best (3.4% ABV) is our well-balanced, easy-drinking ale. For its strength it drinks much fuller with plenty of rich malt, toffee and biscuit flavours complemented by a hint of bitterness. A moreish, sessionable ale that’s full of character.

Cask at the Dolphin Tavern, Penzance on Christmas Eve 2023. Deep copper with shallow foam and scant lacing. Malty aroma and liquid pass. A slight bitterness accompanies this caramel malt in the finish. Light body and a smooth mouthfeel.

500ml bottle. Pours clear amber, small white head. Toasted / biscuity malt aroma, continuing to form much of the flavour profile with a pokey bitterness. Fine quencher.

Cask, at the Wharf. A layer of off-white bubbles on top of a clear dark golden body. Caramel, bread crust and raisin hints on the nose. It's thin and flat on the palate, with a light sweetness and bitterness to balance it. The flavor too is malt driven, but at least there's some piney, citrusy hops too. Quite lengthy finish. Superb drinkability but too dull for me. 230808

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Waitrose. Pours clear copper with a foamy, white topping. Lightly sweet with soft, lightly toasted bready malts, slight leafy bitterness, grain. Light bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Further toasty-bready malts to finish, mild yeast expression. Easy-drinking beer.

Cloudy brown minimal foam. Weak biscuit on the nose. Taste is a lot of biscuit, soft orange, ends refreshing and dry. A little modest but all right.

Cask at The Refectory, Milford, as Brunning & Price Trad Bitter. Sweet caramel malty aroma. Light chestnut. No head. Some initial light bitterness before a sour streak takes over. Underlying malty caramel sweetness that gains strength although the sourness remains throughout. Light-medium bodied. Soft mouthfeel. Flat carbonation. Slightly astringent finish. This is their Best? Typical bland bitter - these oldschool brewers really can't be arsed.
