Two varieties of New Zealand hops are added at intervals very late during the brewing of this amber pale ale to produce flavours of tropical fruit, lemon, lime, and spice.
Our label shows a Thames Barge used extensively for shipping goods, including Firebricks, between the Rivers Tyne and Thames, in the 19C. From these ports, goods were transported around the world. Maybe some Firebricks even reached New Zealand! Today we can certainly get exotic hops from NZ to Newcastle, and have used plenty in the making of Trade Star, our tribute to the great days of trade on the Tyne.

Handpull cask at the Waiting Room, Durham. Light amber, clear with a spotty off-white head. Fresh grassy aroma, a little metallic, some bready malt. Taste is definitely malt-led: sweet with notes of toffee, followed by gentle marmalade bitterness. Short finish. Very slight body with soft carbonation. All right.

Cask @ Baum, Rochdale. Clear golden with a small glow. Smoothish tasting with a hint of grainy chocolatesque malt in its taste, and a more steady fruity nose. Quite crisp.
