Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Clear golde with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, yeasty, fruity and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. 211115

Etched glass bottle - Extra brought by Jordan - Pours yellowish brown white head. Nose/taste of lemon, bread, alcohol soaked old malt/hop - lighter medium body.

Clear, crisp copper coloured body with a golden glow and a very rich, four centimetre tall microfoamed tan head with a zillion small bubbles constantly rising from the bottom. Bright aroma of pit fruits, apricots, earth, yeast, curacao, caster sugar, alcohol and a bit of oak - definitely smells more of a belgian ale (and looks, too) than a doppelbock. Full-bodied; Rich, candy sugar flavour with a nice malt note, some apple and pear flavours, a touch of oak and dry flavours and a hint of cognac and whiskey on the finish as well. Aftertaste is rich and subtle at the same time with only a bit of the grain getting through, but tons of sugars, a good amount of fruit and a nice full complement of oak and dry tastes showing at the tail end. Overall, a nice beer with perhaps a mildish flavour, probably due to it being a lager, but a good robust beer with a nice character and a good description from the brewery itself. Not worth searching out for, but if the price is nice, not a bad beer to welcome Spring to. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Mom’s Organic Market in Alexandria (Mount Vernon Avenue), Virginia, a few blocks from home on the other side of the river/run for US$11,29 on 14-March-2015 sampled at home in Washington on 22-April-2015.

Klare dunkel goldgelbe Farbe, große weiße Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv getreidig, malzig, gering hopfig, wenig fruchtig. Geschmack kräftig malzig, der Alkohol versteckt sich gut, scharf getreidig, gering hopfig fruchtig.

Aroma: The nose is sweet, with caramel malt, dough, spice, and some German yeast
Appearance: Pours a clear orange color with a creamy off-white head and some fairly strong lace
Flavor: Similar flavor component-wise, complex, rich, and sweet, with a light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full (leaning full), with a smooth feel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting beer. I think they did a good job with this beer. There's a lot going on here, but it doesn't come off as muddled. Good to see a flavorful and interesting lager, we could use more of these in the American craft scene.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 7/2014. Pours slightly hazy orange copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with moderate streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big biscuit, toast, raisin, apple, pear, apricot, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big biscuit, toast, raisin, apple, pear, apricot, caramel, brown bread, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Zero bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of biscuit, toast, raisin, pear, apple, apricot, caramel, brown bread, brown sugar, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately slick, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice doppelbock. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Hazy deep golden amber color, small tan head, solid but delicate lacing. Aroma issweet caramel and light spice. Taste is a bit of an off mix of vanilla, light spice, citrus, caramel. Decent enough.

Had this at Caliente in Richmond VA, right before cracking into their "famed" "Stupid Wings" - horrible decision by the way - I like punishing myself but not that much. Anyway, I picked up this brew - came with a orange-light brown color with a small white head. Aroma was light honey notes, sweet malts. Flavor was grainy malts, somw sweet notes. Alcohol is really present in this one.
