Cask at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a cloudy dark amber with minimal off-white head and good lacing. There’s rye and hops in the aroma, but even together it is somewhat weak. In the mouth there is a gentle sweetness overlaid on a strongly bitter base. Rye is the main flavour along with pine, floral hops and black bread. Some hints of hazelnuts later as well leading to a dry and nutty finish. This is reasonable.

So so. Lot of herbal pine, modest bitterness, sun-baked crust, grain husk, dried citrus peel, crackers. Decent condition but not tip top. Alright balance. Drinks OK.

People in the town of Rye are currently against the redevelopment of Cyprus Place. I'm not against this amber coloured rye beer, which is quite hoppy, lessening the grittiness that might be found from this special ale. It's flavoursome enough though.

Gravity cask at the 33rd Ealing Beer Festival, 12/07/24. Amber pour topped with an off white head. Nose is toasted grains, rye bread, caramel, bitter orange. Taste comprises grapefruit, orange peel, toasted malts, bready note. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with mellow hop bitterness. Not bad.
