Ever been to Mars? Nor have we, unless you count our ramshackle operation here in Attercliffe. But we've seen pictures!

Luckily, our cool friends from ABYSS brewery hang out there all the time. So we know, you know, the scene.

This beer is a collaboration, it's definitely a koelship IPA in some ways, but doesn't look remotely like an IPA as we know it. It's got a red/amber hue, and was inspired by the heavily hopped red beers of the 90s brewed by the likes of Stone and Dogfish head in the USA... So expect serious hop character, big, big body, and a crazy reddish haze like you're caught in a Martian sandstorm.

We ended up with Cosmic Imperial Red Ale as a description. It works. Cheers, hope you enjoy it!

Hops: Equanot, Bru-1, Chinook, Simcoe

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from All Good Beer. Pours unclear amber with a foamy, off-white head. Medium sweet flavour with rich, layered ok e, toasted malts, ripening berries, orange rind. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine, massaging carbonation. Moderate piney resin in the finish, nips of warmth, more ripening berries, citrus accents, toasted grains, brown bread. Rich and tasty. Great old-school sauce.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Murky amber/brown body with an off-white head that holds well. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of brown sugar and fig. Flavour of toffee apple and caramel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. A touch sweet for my taste but it’s still an enjoyable beer.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 09/07/22. Murky reddish amber is a good sized lasting beige cap. Nose is tangy berry fruits, biscuit, caramel, quite a tarte nose, dusty hop presence. Taste comprises blood orange, caramel, stewed fruits, pine nip, grapefruit twist, bitter tropical fruits, toasted brown bread. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with earthy hop bitterness. Solid for the style ... good bitter stuff and never running sweet.

Can. From the brewery. Also very many pours. Not a looker this really. Super murky dirty dark brown copper colour. Dirty white swede stays the course. Some decent legs. Nose has big jammy hop. Pink grapefruit. Pine resin. Bit of marmalade. Taste is pretty sweet and jammy, with a robust piny pithy earthy bitterness. Slick and fairly rich mouthfeel with fine carbonation. Lots of oily hop here. Big old school bitterness to finish. It’s like a 90s Stone beer. Arrogant Bastard type of thing. Anyway it’s ugly as fuck but I want to drink it until I fall over.
