Gypsy Tart is a Flanders-style brown ale with a California touch. A beer that can trace it’s origins to Great Britain, but more famously perfected in western Belgium, has been updated through our own modern techniques, delivering the sweet body and mildly tart finish that has won over numerous generations of beer drinkers in Europe. Our rendition of this wonderful beer style is perfect for both sour beer amateurs and advocates alike.

Tap at Jacs. Unfiltered burgundy brown body. Somewhat soft on the palate carbonation wise, but lots of aceduc sour tones. Not the worst approximation of the style, but not that impressive either. American sour territory, limited finesse or balance. Drinkable, but not as good as Rodenbach. Leathery after awhile.

On tap at Elzabeth station on the prior day. Pours a redish brown with a tan head. Aroma is slightly woody and caramel with some fruity notes. Same taste. Malty aftertaste. Meh.

It has a clear very dark brown red color, short-lived fizzy head and no lace. Aroma is malt tart dark fruits and a bit of toffee. Flavor must be too subtle for me to be able to pick up on the finer nuances because all I get are some malt and a tad of fruit. Good body. And a fairly long to finish that’s clean.
