And the award goes to...
We, at the academy, have canvassed the hop industry and cross checked this with our cooler, our peers, our customers, and our friends. After much deliberation, ballots were cast, nominees were made, and the winners are: For Lead Actor, Simcoe gives a quiet yet dominant performance with predictable grapefruit and tangerine attributes. And while this work is rock solid, the Lead Actress Idaho 7 truly makes this beer shine thanks to highlights of ripe pineapple and sticky resin. Supporting Actress Centennial offers an anchor to a classic NW profile - an admirable feat. And the winner of Original Screenplay, Hop 692, throws that tradition out the window - with the surprising, impactful notes of tropical fruit and cedar. And of course, none of this could be made possible with the producer (Corporate Ale Yeast) and Director (Rahr 2-Row) - both who tirelessly work behind the scenes and allow all the hops to truly shine. Lastly, we’d like to thank God because he totally gives a shit about all this.

On tap at Cloudburst, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out bitter floral hops, pine, and biscuity malt. Flavour is pithy and bitter, with lots of piney hops, pithy bitterness, and crisp biscuity malt. Sharply bitter and perhaps not as good well-calibrated as usual.

Back to Cloudburst = Back to rating. The best deserves it. 3pm on an uneventful Saturday, and the place is packed more than the Seattle Dragons inaugural home game. Super tasty IPA. Soft haze, golden orange. Quite a dank hop nose, some earthy grain balance. Smooth taste. Melon and citrus, with a far less than sharp palate. Cool and smooth drinking. Almost creamy. Lots of classic hops here, in a more modern IPA style, if I am here pretending to know what I'm talking about. Really, I just say all these things in total pretend mode. Seriously. I taste a beer, know I love it in this case, give a phony attempt at describing what I'm tasting, and that's that. These guys are the best at what they do. I mainly stopped rating beers regularly because I lost my hand written journal of beer notes somewhere in the San Francisco bay area. If anybody found it, they found tons of notes about how f'ing good Cloudburst beers are. Add this one to an already impressive lineup. Excellent IPA.
