Pigs Ear. Clear deep red beer. Residual pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and smooth, almost no carbonation. Tangy dark fruits. Mild caramel. Barely there dark malts. Little dried fruits.Finishses light and dry. It’s got some schwarz character but it’s muted and bit tired.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2013. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is earth, toast, cocoa, chocolate, caramel and light spice. The taste is smooth, earth, toast, mild acidity, caramel and mild acidity with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Fine, if a little uneventful...

Cask at The New Bridge, Newcastle. Styles itself as a Black Lager, but makes for a very nice mild. Pours black with a thin tan head. Sweet chocolate malt aromas, with a hint of fruity berries. Taste has more chocolate sweetness and a sweet finish. Like I said, a nice mild.
