Balaton cherry sour

This mixed-fermentation sour highlights a best in class cherry with Hungarian roots grown just north of our brewery in Oyama, BC. Through a lengthy fermentation on top of the whole fruit, this beer has developed a gorgeous colour, flavour, and tannin structure.

Poured from 473mL can. Slightly hazy orangey red with small white head. Rhubarby aroma, balaton cherry and rhubarb, yogurty, probably too old. Don't bother with this if it's not fresh. Minimal cherry character remains. Perhaps I'll re-try if I come across it at the brewery.

473mL can, pours a fairly clear darker red with a pinkish tinge and a pink-tinged head. Nose is gentle, with subtle tart cherries and yogurty notes. Flavour is yogurty, with lightly tart cherries, a bit of bugs, and some jamminess. Wish there was more cherry depth. As is, it's pleasant but there's nothing complex or special about this. Decent.

Can. Pink colour. Lots of bugs on this beer. Quite tart, with an earthy cherry character, and woody notes in the finish. The balatons come through with a clean sweetness that just cuts the tartness. Solid.
