So first off, you might be wondering what an Adambier is. And you'd be right to wonder, since this very old beer style isn't brewed often. My Adambier is not historically accurate, I chose to base my recipe on @hairofthedogbrewing's iconic "Adam". The recently-closed Portland brewery is legendary for their strong beers and it goes without saying that HotD is a huge inspiration to me. Happy retirement, Alan!
My take on this "modern Adambier" style is dark, but not "stout-y". Smoke is present but not overwhelming from the peated malt in the grain bill. The double mash and 8 hour boil give a full body and silky sweetness without being cloying.
I chose to barrel down this base in some really unique casks. This vanilla brandy barrel was previously used for bourbon and had a wonderful aroma when I received it, a mix of vanilla aromatics and dried fruit, maybe a hint of citrus. It comes across subtle in the final beer, just a few of many facets.
I hope you enjoy it.

Very dark brown. Just a thin head. Aroma is oxidized, light fig, a fair amount of alcohol, some boozy vinous barrel notes. Not bad.

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with slight fizzy head. Aromas of oaky booze, dark chocolate, vanilla, and slick roasted malts. Flavors of rich chocolate nougat, dark sugars, bourbon, vanilla and oily roasted malts. Hot finish but also spicy notes like cinnamon.

Bottle, Temporal Tasting
Dark, near black, with no head. Aroma of chocolate, alcohol, light wood, hint of sweet nuts and fudge. Lean body, the sweetness is very moderate; burnt sugar dominates, some chocolate; the carbonation is almost absent; traces of tar and molasses.
It's a good beer, but without the edges and the nuances that I would expect from a carefully crafted beer.

330ml shared with Ryan @ Alex's garage. Appearance: brown withalmost no head. Aroma: a bit weird for me, dark fruits, some smoke and meaty notes, caramel. Taste: along the same lines, finishes with roasty bitterness. Overall: nah, not really my thing, unfortunately.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Very dark brown with very minimal beige head. Caramel and toffee, underlying vanilla, hint of soured peat, woody barrel quality. A little rough around the edges.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out leather, vanilla brandy barrels, dry caramel, and a touch of tobacco. Flavour is medium-heavy sweet, with tobacco, vanilla brandy barrels, caramel, and a touch of smokiness. Sweet but not cloying, with a nice complexity. Not really like Adam and much sweeter. It's solid.
