This hefty Imperial Stout transferred into a freshly emptied Maple Syrup barrels which previously housed Heaven Hills Bourbon, it was then laid to rest for 12 months. This beer encompasses all of the characteristics we love in a Barrel Aged Imperial Stout - rich dark chocolate, hints of coffee, mild charred oak, and vanilla, along with subtle notes of bourbon. This year's version adds in another element with layers of maple syrup that shine through with each sip as a compliment to the base beer itself, a perfect sipper for the season.

Poured from 355mL can. Near black with small beige head. Mild bourbon and maple, very feint vanilla. Prefer the 2021 and 2020 variants slightly better, but still quite nice.

2024-07-02, can, almost 2 years old, 8-4-9-4-18=43
Rich and sweet, bourbon, vanilla, dark sugars, warming alcohol; still delicious.

Sweet, with accents of dark chocolate; the alcohol is very warming; touch of bitter almonds.

The colour is near black, the head dissipates quickly. Aroma of chocolate, chocolate syrup, spirit, late petrol. It's full bodied, sweet; rich dark sugar flavour, some burnt sugar provides balance to the sweetness; the bourbon is strong, but perfectly integrated, almost smoky; hint of ashes, hint of toffee (maybe the maple).
Excellent.

12oz @ home shared with Alex. Appearance: brown with a beige head. Aroma: nice bourbon barrel with some maple notes. Taste: along the same lines with more prominent maple and a nice charred barrel. Thin compared to the previous years. Overall: good, but not as good as the two previous batches.

Can. Dark brown. Not much head. Okay, this doesn't look like much. Big bourbon aroma. On the palate, soft and sweet. Huge bourbon character, and this brings a lot of warmth into the finish. Sweet chocolate has moderate richness and sugars, but enough to handle the substantial treatment. Maybe some vanilla in there, and maple stickiness, but this isn't especially complex...just tasty.

341mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out plenty of bourbon barrels, very subdued maple syrup, and a touch of roast. Flavour is rich, with moderately-to-heavy sweet maple syrup and bourbon barrels. Really nice sweet bourbony character. Not as great as last year, but it's really solid.
