Poured from 473mL can. Clear golden orange with small white head. Super feint smoke, bready malt, meh.

473mL can, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma reveals some gentle smokiness and soft bready malt. Flavour has gentle smokiness upfront, with bready malt and some toasted dry caramel. Dry bready, smoky finish. It's fine.

Can. Amber, with a bit of haze. Light smoke on the nose. On the palate, it has sweet malt up front, and light smoke in the back. Overall, though, it's a touch husky and light in the body. Needs more residual sugars to really bring out the smoke, especially at the upper end of marzen strength. A bit vegetal in there as well, so overall it's kind of a weak finish.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark amber colour, clear, with small beige head. As the colour suggests, there is some caramel flavour; the aroma on the other side is slightly more smokey, with just a touch of malt; the smoke flavour is infinitesimal, at least it adds some quality; there's a light fruity Lager hint too; the bitterness is balanced, and the final is long. It may appear to be slightly metallic.
Maybe this dark Lager needs more smoke, and they missed the opportunity to brew a crispy blond lager; but it's very enjoyable nevertheless.
